The Ford BSD444T diesel engine, also called the Ford 268T industrial engine, has been widely used in industrial applications. Unfortunately, by now, the Ford serial number tag has usually been removed and any numbers on the Ford valve cover are long gone. This presents a problem when ordering parts because there is a significant variation among the early and late engines. Here is how to tell the difference between early and late Ford BSD444T engines.

The early connecting rods will be 1.5” wide and the late Ford BSD44T are 1.25” wide.
